The challenge Accurate documentation is inevitably a must for capital improvement projects. The repetition of completing a daily log can become both inefficient and time consuming, thus allowing precise documentation to fall behind.

The Solution Orange Vest has introduced an innovative solution that accelerates daily project documentation and facilitates construction management.

The Results • Time-efficient process

No more unnecessary and repetitive documentation

• Easily accessible project data available anytime and anywhere Eliminating paper trail by introducing a one-in-all platform

• Simplifying construction management Accurate project overview reflecting in real-time

Construction managers are required to answer and track/log RFIs (Requests for Information), comment on, approve, or reject materials submittals from the Contractor while tracking and logging them, preparing, and building out Contract Change Orders and logging them, and managing the schedule, budget and quality. Construction inspectors are required to retain daily logs recording work performance in conformance with the specs and plans, quantification of the work per payment, day to day activities, equipment used or idle, labor force and ensuring that each bid item is addressed properly. Orange Vest has simplified the documentation process by encompassing all components into one singular platform.

The Road to Efficiency “Sometimes, it would take 4 hours after work without getting paid. To me that was a waste of effort. Now I can finish it within maybe half an hour, sometimes before I leave the site for the day.”

- Michael Nguyen, Inspector, Onward Engineering

“When laptops and iPads came into the normal everyday use of an inspector, you could copy and paste information. That could be useful, but in the long run it was still time consuming.”

- Robert Valle, Inspector, Onward Engineering “I can tell exactly where we are at with respect to the project, immediately. That is the real efficiency gained by using Orange Vest.”

- Ludy Smeets, Construction Manager, Onward Engineering

Orange Vest facilitates the documentation of unexpected work items and allows it to be reflected in real-time.” It allows you to build a potential contract change order and then track on a time and material basis,” claims Robert. “When I look at my report after I’ve signed it, I can see the quantities per bid item completed to date, as well as the notes under each bid item, that's helpful,” states Michael. Unlike stand-alone documentation, last minute reports can easily be included and merged.

When asked what his favorite feature was, Robert expressed that it was Orange Vest’s ability to save line items from previous daily reports. Once a line item is created it is saved and ready to use for another date. “You can quickly add a line item with all the established people in no time. No more having to write things down bit by bit or copy and paste on the fly. It is already there from the previous day,” says Robert.

A Construction Management Tool

Orange Vest allows one to manage the entire project from both an inspector’s and manager’s perspective. Unlike individual reports, Orange Vest adds the quantities for the inspector at the end of each month. “It is quantifying the work as you go, so all you must do is go to the last report at the end of the month and see the total quantity. No more having to go back and look at every individual inspection report and add everything up for every single line item, or track using separate individual Excel sheets,” expresses Robert.

Construction Manager Ludy Smeets shares, “Orange vest has done a lot to reduce the amount of work that it takes to manage one or multiple projects.” Construction managers are provided with the ability to “see what the contractor has done based on the input from the inspector and the quantities of work that has been completed,” adds Ludy.

Orange Vest’s dashboard reflects the overall project advancement making it easier to report to the client with 360-degree clarity. “The dashboard tells you right away where you stand on the project. If there is any incomplete daily construction report, a quantity overage, a troubling weather report, and more,” mentions Ludy. Orange Vest manages projects proactively allowing construction managers to stay on top of the work. “It helps me stay on top of the work on a daily basis and it is very current for each and every project,” states Ludy.

Orange Vest permits new construction managers to easily catch up on the work completed and take over an existing project. “I could go off of the project and give the project to somebody else and they could look at Orange vest and see exactly where we are,” comments Ludy.
